SANTA BREAKFAST DEC 5
Santa Claus made his appearance for kids at the breakfast. It was a fun event with a wonderful breakfast prepared by Jan Hermanson and her committee.
FALL NEWS
OFFICIAL VISIT - SEPT 22
We enjoyed another delicious pot luck dinner before the meeting. The Grand Officers and their escorts were our guests.

After dinner, our stated meeting was held. We welcomed the Worthy Grand Matron Donna Hanley and the Worthy Grand Patron Russ Trout and eleven other Grand Officers and their escorts. We had a good crowd as this was the Official Visit of the WGM and WGP. We also had 6 Past Grand Officers and 2 visitors among the 45 sideliners. The WM presented the Grand Officers and Escorts Honorary Memberships to our Chapter.
Part of the business included the report of Kristie Kearney and Krista Benninger that they were going to meet with the Lodge to help in the planning of the annual Awards night and dinner. The Lodge asked for the Eastern Star to assist in this year's dinner. The WM then asked if there was "anyone else to help these two to show the boys how to have a good time?" Smiles and chuckles.
As usual, refreshments followed the meeting.
RECEPTION FOR THE GRAND WARDER

 |
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Oct 3, we hosted a reception for our own Al Pederson, Grand Warder. All but one Grand Officer and their escorts were present to help us honor Brother Al.
|
The menu for lunch included chicken salad, fruit, croissants and pound cake. Thanks to Maraline Keeling, Tracy Keeling, Mary Larson, Judy Lantto, Sarah Felton, Jan Hermanson, Joan Pederson, Jane Fastle, Jim Fastle, Carol Van Hofwegen, Charlotte Brooks, Robyn Johnson Bob Holden, Deb Rickard and Nicole Pederson for being a wonderful reception committee.
During the meal, wedding pictures ran on the big screen TV. That way we all got to share in the happy ceremony from the previous weekend. Al's family was at the reception including his brand new wife, Nicole.
Al received several gifts, some of which were very obviously for the happy newly weds.
Thanks to all who came to share in this happy day for our Brother Al.
HAT , MITTEN AND SCARF TREE
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project. Associate Conductress Deb reports that she has found a grade school on Colfax Ave, not far from our area, very excited to receive our donation. We have many bags of warm hats, scarves and mittens to give. Our appreciation goes to all contributors, whether you knitted or bought the items. We also received a mystery box full of warm beautiful items while we were at the lodge one Saturday. After some investigation by our Worthy Matron Sara, it was found that a Sister from eastern Wisconsin had donated these items. What a great thing to do! Thanks to our Sister Linda Crist, Trillium Chapter, for her thoughtfulness in joining in our project.
NOVEMBER 10 MEETING
This meeting was a combination of many things. The results of our pancake breakfast, bake sale, bazaar and specialty sale were announced. We did very well indeed. It seems the special different types of pancakes were a hit. Perhaps we can look forward to more.
Kristine Barstow, formerly from Missouri, was welcomed as a member of our Chapter. Glad to have you with us!
As it the day before Veterans Day, we took a few moments to 'salute' veterans and give thanks to our military for their service to our country.
Eleven past and present Marthas were honored and then the Super Stars, those who have served each one of the Star Point offices were also honored. The three Super Stars were Cuba Hite, Judy Johnson and Harriet Ellis.
Note: The Past Matrons luncheon at Timber Lodge was cancelled due to the snow storm. As of this time the next meeting will be in Feb.
SCANDINAVIAN DINNER AND MEETING-DEC 8
The usual goodies - sausage, meatballs, torsk, lutefisk, potatoes, vegetables, herring, cheese, lefsa, cranberry-apple jello salad, melted butter, cream gravy, bread, rice pudding, rye crisp and fruit soup were enjoyed by our members and guests before the meeting. Our grateful thanks to Gayle and Brad Johnson and all who helped and those former Mpls #9 members who influenced and helped bring this annual event to Lake Harriet. To all the Sisters and Brothers who worked so hard all day cooking and setting up for the dinner - THANK YOU!
After dinner we enjoyed Christmas music all during the meeting and sang many of our favorite carols thanks to the organ music of Jim Fastle.
There was a great crowd at the meeting including several guests who joined us for the dinner and/or meeting.
It was announced that our own Joan Pederson, PM has been appointed as Grand Representative of Nevada in Minnesota. Wow, now she and Al get to travel to Las Vegas for their Grand Chapter. We can hardly wait to hear that report.
Sister Judy Johnson then received her 50 year pin. CONGRATULATIONS JUDY! She told of a few highlights in her OES 50 years and introduced several Sisters who 'knew her when'.
A member party will be held at Vernon Terrace Apartments, Sat Dec 18 from 1-3pm, 5250 Vernon, Edina. Cookies and cider will be served. All are welcome.
Note: The Social Club luncheon Dec 11 was cancelled due to the 2010 blizzard. May have another event later.
Honoring Past Matrons and Past Patrons
Oct 13 was the meeting at which we honored PM and PP. Our honored PM was Tracy Keeling and the honored PP was Charlie Meyer. They told of fond memories of their year and introduced all of their officers and installing officers present. They each got a box of wonderful fudge from the WM (which they did not share with anyone that we know of).
Along with Tracy and Charlie 20 other Past Matrons and 3 other PP were introduced and honored. Most of them could remember their fun symbols. Bone up on your year for next years honoring. You never know what may be asked of you.
During the meeting we were reminded of a lot of upcoming events.
PLEASE KEEP BRINGING NON-PERISHABLE FOOD FOR THE JOYCE FOOD SHELF.
KEEP THOSE MITTENS, SCARVES AND HATS COMING FOR DONATION TO THE SCHOOL KIDS.
SPRING 2010 WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
Our first meeting was April 14 and we honored our Junior Past Matron Jan Hermanson and Junior Past Patron Matt Rose.
They were escorted to the east, presented with gifts and our thanks and then escorted to the Altar to sign the Chapter Bible.
Then we all ate pancakes, waffles and eggs at the Lodge pancake breakfast on April 18. The Chapter had our first bake sale of the year at the breakfast and we did very well!!! Look forward to more delicious goodies at future events.
April 28 was our stated meeting and we were looking forward to Grand Chapter . And we were excited at the appointment and installation of Al Pederson as Grand Warder. He really didn't even get lost but enjoyed the parties.
May 12 we heard the details of the Grand Chapter events reported by Jennifer Papas. Then the Mothers were honored and each given a rose.
The salad luncheon was a very fun time. Good food, great socializing and making wonderful greeting cards of all types. Thanks to Carol Van Hofwegen and her committee for a very nice event.
Our Chapter birthday rolls around at the end of May and this year we celebrated 97 years on May 26. Naturally we had to sing Happy Birthday to ourselves and have birthday cake. We are in full planning mode for out 100th coming up soon. If anyone has historical items, articles, programs, pictures or anything else of interest from our first hundred years please notify Jerrie Hayes. We would like to have it or borrow it, which ever suits you.
Then June 9th we tried to learn a lot from our District Instructor, Peg Oliver assisted by Marilyn Carlson. It was nice to have our school of instruction just before our initiation meeting. What a help to our officers.
June 12 the Social Club had their annual picnic. Pot luck items added to the sloppy joes, potato chips and pickles that Judy Lantto and the committee had. After lunch the first 'bottle auction' was held. What a hoot! Disguised bottle of various types were auctioned off. Who knew what you might pay for what? Brother Al Pederson was the auctioneer. That was a show in itself. It has been reported that several bottles of adult beverages made their appearance amongst other cleverly wrapped bottled items. Perhaps this may become a traditional event????
We welcomed four new Sisters into our Chapter on June 23.
Marie Nelson |
Esther Daily |
Congratulations and welcome to Gracie George, Esther Daily, Krista Benninger and Marie Nelson. We hope to see them come and join in the fun and events of our active Chapter. Then we honored the fathers in the Chapter. They got candy bars to enjoy.
Edina held their 4th of July parade on July 3rd and we marched and rode along with Bethel 1 Job's Daughters. Thanks to Brad Johnson who graciously drove his classic convertible for the WM and WP and who ever else could get a ride. We all came back to the lodge for Burger Day grilling and open house. It was a nice day even if it was a bit warm, ok HOT! HUMID! Typical 4th of July weather.
BROTHER AL PEDERSON IS GRAND OFFICER
Grand Chapter is now over and our own Brother Al Pederson was installed as Grand Warder. Congratulations Al. Have a wonderful, fun filled year of travel, meetings and special events.

FIRST MEETING - APRIL 14
The first meeting of the new year is already history. All of our new officers did a nice job and we had our usual fun evening.
Many of our members are getting ready to go to Grand Chapter in the beginning of May. Al Pederson is getting ready to lead the charge to the Worthy Matron and Worthy Patrons 'party'. If you see him heading the wrong direction, steer him right. We will look forward to the reports of this grand event.
FIRST BAKE SALE - APRIL 18
We invaded the Lodge pancake breakfast last Sunday with a huge table full of wonderful baked goodies. There were the ever-popular chocolate chip cookies, rice krispie bars, banana bread and caramel rolls. But that was not all - brownies, lime coconut cupcakes with Italian buttercream frosting, red velvet cupcakes with chocolate or cream cheese frosting, apple cinnamon and banana nut muffins, grasshopper brownies, ginger snaps, cherry nut bread, corn bread all filled the table to over-flowing. Thanks to Bob Holden, Gayle Johnson, Corrine Schmick, Jean Nelson, Lorraine Smith, Judy Lantto, Tracy and Maraline Keeling, Judy Johnson and Diane
Ritchie for their kitchen talents. We made $146.25. Let's try to beat that next time.
IN THE NEW YEAR!!
We will be having a very short meeting on Jan 13. It will be so short that only opening, minutes and closing will take place.
In the mean time, all the rest of us will be working on our service project making cozy blankets for the cancer hospital. Come and join the fun. Bring scissors and your tying hands. The Past Matrons will be in charge and we will have the blanket materials ready to cut and tie.
January 27 will be a big night. Dinner at 6pm followed by our Official Visit meeting. The Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron will be attending. Grand Officers and Escorts will join them for the festivities. Come be a part of the big night.
If you haven't been to a Chapter meeeting in a while, there is a big surprise at the lodge. You better come and see for yourself!
